Yes, it is. The driver should have been arrested and proscecuted as well. That would have been proportionate to his in-humanity in using his vechile as a weapon and deliberately near-missing a cyclist.
...If he's the sort of idiot who already has irrational prejudices about cyclists you have confirmed said prejudices and probably made him even more dangerous. And your action has given him good reason to call the rozzers.
