Northern Rock Cyclone

Postby mw3230 » 14 Jun 2009, 7:31pm

Took part in the Northern Rock Cyclone Sportive yesterday for the first time - 62 miles around Northumberland. Excellent weather, excellent scenery and excellent organisation. It was a good day overall. I would recommend the event to all. Come to the North East and see what we have to offer - our hills are not too bad!!

I'll second that. I took part in the 101 mile ride and had a great time.

However, the higher you get into the Cheviot Hills, the more likely you are to experience all 4 seasons in 1 day. Even that's not all bad - quite refreshing in fact!

The organiser has got in touch with the riders on the 101 mile ride highlighting some issues over litter and closing gates to agricultural land - general 'Countryside Code' stuff - that were brought to hom by local farmers and residents. For the good of the promoter and this event in future years it would be worth riders being mindful of these courtesies, although I accept that 1000 cyclists passing through gates may present a challenge in closing the gate behind you.

It may be that 'flying marshalls' should be deployed to gate duty ... and litter picking
