Given the choice between ending up dead, in hospital or court I'd take my chances in court. The same issues apply to any circumstances where you need to defend yourself and the law, by and large, seems to get it right. My view is that what I did was necessary and totally proportionate given the situation.

The case you refer too (from 6 years ago) was fairly exceptional and the evidence presented not very clear (I recall the court deciding that there was no conclusive evidence as to whethre the injured party was in the road or not).
