Oh the ironies of life ! Just over 6 weeks after starting this thread my own son has been killed on the road in very similar circumstances. Although he was a pedestrian rather than a cyclist.

Rule 63

Cycle Lanes. These are marked by a white VAN (which may be broken) along the carriageway (see Rule 140). Keep within the lane when practicable, watch out for Anna Meares elbows.

Thank you Coffee. He was walking home from a friends house in the early hours along a terrible stretch of road in Cornwall when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Sadly he died at the scene. Not really sure yet if it was an error on his part that caused it or by the vehicles driver. Either way it will have wrecked two young peoples lives. My son and the driver, who was only a couple of years younger.
