I see lots of people using it on the Queenstown Road/Chelsea Bridge and Millbank section - as I am coming over the Victoria rail bridge of a morning.

I was thinking of using it myself at some stage, but was worried about how the right turn from Chelsea Bridge to Millbank/Chelsea Embankment/Grosvenor Road or whatever it is at that point, is handled? I guess you can get in the ASL if the traffic is stationary, but then if the traffic is moving, its a case of going across a lane of traffic safely to turn right?

Would be grateful for any pointers.

Not location specific, but indicate well, take one lane, indicate clearly again, move across.

Thanks Bob. I'm reasonably confident doing that in Parliament Square bizarrely, as there is loads of traffic, including lots of bikes. When I look at Chelsea Bridge from Victoria Rail Bridge in the morning, it looks like two solid lanes of traffic to the right of the blue lane, with little or no room to move across. I'm thinking that some of the Chelsea tractor brigade are going to use the 'in your lane' argument when you try to get in the main lanes to turn; but there are a lot of bikes, so you'd think the car and bus drivers would be used to it.

The depot for the open top tourist buses is south of the river and they come over there every morning to place them in appropriate spots around Central London - and they really are a hazard. They'll turn right as well to come up the Embankment.

Guess I won't know till I try it.

I might be tempted to wait until the lights turn red before getting into the correct lane.

Thanks PRL. That's probably what I'll do as well - I'm in no hurry. Quite often if I am tired after work, I will cycle as far as Parliament Square and then get off and walk round a bit, then get back on, if I am not in the mood for the frantic lane swopping of taxis, motorbikes, buses and bicycles that goes on to get through to Westminster Bridge. I think everyone has their own comfort level.

I can understand some of the arguments that we may not have space on some roads to have completely segregated lanes - but I think whichever method you use, junctions are the biggest hazard. The Cycle Superhighways are a bit of a botched attempt sometimes.

What is interesting (and bl**dy annoying) is that there 'isn't room' on London roads to put segregated lanes in - but they can happily close whole lanes to stick some Olympic rings on them for a month or so ........
