MTB to old hybrid

Post by dalifnei »

can't believe the difference! Was commuting on a heavy MTB and have been donated my late father in law's 20 year old claud butler hybrid, which is in good condition.

It's much lighter, and has 700 38c tyres instead of 26inx2.00 chunky tyres...
Less gears and I don't really like the shifters though

It's so zippy in comparison. The main differences surprise me
- easier to balance, can now wait at the lights without feet...
- easier to balance through queues of traffic and manoeuvre through the mirrors
- fast away from the lights
- a but faster on the roads, can now keep up
- but a but bumpier and rougher, the cobbled streets are a nightmare!

Also set up strava but that's a whole other thread

Hi,
More the different tyres, different tread.
Admittely they will handle differently to.
A mtb with the right tyres would be ok.
They are also more robust.
Most mtb's were fitted with the wrong tyres, just too knobbly a tread.
For 99.9 % of mtb use's a semi road trail tyre would be fine in all but the muddiest stuff.
Excluding mtb racing off course.
