Agreed, I doubt that much action would be taken if only cyclists were inconvenienced. The clue in the report is that motorists could be affected by some tacks left after attempts to clear them. I would think cars would only get punctures if their tyres were very worn, but if the motoring lobby can get involved we might get somewhere :?

I'm no lover of sportives, and my heart sinks when I find myself on the same route/road as one,the gel wrappers alone are disgusting to say the least.
But that said, when people disrupt such a sporting event in such a despicable way I wonder what is going on these people's minds? :?
As was reported in the link people come from miles around to ride the event and spend money locally,so where the logic is for one day's disruption is a mystery.

Going off at slight but relevant tangent, whilst riding along a shared use cyclepath today I came across a huge branch laid across two thirds of the path and a council worker clearing it away.
I asked what had happened and was told it was the local chavistocrisy and that last week they'd chopped two biggish trees down and blocked the whole path, two men a pickup truck and chainsaws were needed to dispose of them
How anyone can spend so much time and energy on such mindless and stupid behaviour is beyond me :?

I'm afraid we will always get mindless morons. There is a quiet country lane locally that we often cycle along. It is little used by traffic, but is known as fly tip alley. Each time we ride through there is usually fresh rubbish dumped, from car tyres to old sofas. I should add it is two miles from a free to use recycling centre

That's very prevalent in my area, and I know just what you mean: there's a similar road which I often cycle along, blocked off to cars at one end and with low barriers erected at the other to keep vans etc. out. Nevertheless the tipping continues unhindered. Once it was an old fuel oil tank, of the type you see outside country houses with oil-fired heating - enormous and impossible for one or even two people to budge. How the tippers got it there is anyone's guess. The stupid thing is, it might well have had some value as scrap metal.

Sometimes I wish someone with a shotgun would take a pot-shot at these culprits, they deserve no less. One redeeming effect though: all the mess keeps the dogging addicts away!

On another lane nearby, a through road this one, I once came across a huge heap of garden waste which completely blocked the lane making it impossible to get a car through (I was just about able to manouevre my bike through, via the verge). I was minded to report it, but someone else must have done so - it was cleared next day. That's where some of our council tax goes...

Agreed about the gel packs, R2. I posted something about this a few months ago, and was told they usually have clean up crews following behind. Shame I still see plenty of this litter though. Perhaps individuals more around our way, I don't know.

I wouldn't care to encounter that group either, but at least it's consensual between the participants (presumably), and gone in the morning.

Trade waste, or what appears to be trade waste, cannot be disposed of in a free to use recycling centre, even if all you that is going on is that someone is carrying away something you could have taken to the tip. Unfortunately some unscrupulous traders will fly-tip rather than pay the fees for disposal of trade waste.

Don't even need to be a trader for it to be awkward- any van needs permission; when we moved house, I hired a van, and had packing materials/old tat to be done with. I was challenged and told so, but was lucky to be able to persuade them of my situation. I think the definition of a fly-tipper would by default include 'bad attitude', and would possibly not win over the folk working at the recycling centre...

I once starred in a Porn film!

Late evening and pulled into a well concealed car park to relieve my bladder.

Then realised I had ridden into a dogging site, complete with a team of guys with lighting and video cameras!

Left very quickly, but I am sure that somewhere out there is a silver recumbent trike in an adult video.

It's a good excuse but won't wash, riding a 'bent is already an offence IMV riding one into a dogging site,in the dead of night, bladdered or not,is proof of guilt

PS,it's all rather "tacky" if you ask me

Do you think any part of your 'anatomy' got on camera?

When such a pile appeared on a bridleway near me I took a photo of the more recognisable content and stuck it up on a advert in the local shop saying basically if this is yours clear it up and take it to the tip and if you recognise it ask the owner to clear it. It was gone in a couple of days and I like to think embarrassing the culprit was a factor.

local footpath was blocked a while back due to a tipper lory leaving all its rubbish on the path, all that effort they had to make to get up the path to save a few quid
another time someone had dragged a freezer about 1/4 mile up the path
so I dragged it back to the road to be told `you cant dump that there! as I always take a freezer walkies with me! :)
I`m def too old for this!

Radio 4 a few days ago had an article about a bloke who walked from JOG to LE (or perhaps vice versa) with a fridge on his back. Perhaps he trained by carrying freezers the relatively trivial distance of 1/4 mile.
