Mileage in 1974 or 2017
I remember reading Cycling in January 1974. Peter Knottley (Randonneur) reported that he had cycled every day of the year in 1973. "I can do that too" I thought. I cycled 365 days in 1974. Now I manage to cycle on at least half the days in the year (183). Who else records their mileage and days ridden? Has anyone really cycled every day for many years? Actually I am quite glad I live in Germany now, 100 km is much easier than 100 miles

Re: Mileage in 1973 or 2013
I have an accurate rides diary for every single turn of a pedal and every inch travelled since October 2004. Before that date, I have only vague sets of info.
I've never cycled all 365days. This year I'm cycling an average of 11miles per day and am well on my way. Today's ride topped the 4,000miles barrier.

In 1973 I would have only ridden my bike to work or the shops, so would have ridden more days than now.
Retired now so only ride for pleasure (I think ).
I record mileage and the days, with the odd comment such as chain renewal or some significant change on the bikes.
I know someone who records the weather and other conditions as well.
No where near 365 days for me - 126 days and 43 miles per ride average.
Shortest 22 & longest dead on 80 miles. (5427 so far this year.)

You'll never know if you don't try it.

250 odd days easily here (commuting) - probably more than 300 - some saturdays are rideless, and when I am away I often don't go anywhere by cycle - but that's a very small number of days.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

I wouldn't do the mileage some of you fellas rack up but there have been years where I could comfortably claim to have used the bike every day.

I have records of my weekly mileage for the last 7n years, I cycle every day although Saturdays its just round town to do shopping. I ahve missed a few days this year whilst working away, this is probably less than 10 days in total

I remember when "Cycling" annually printed a mileage chart for readers.
At the end of the year many readers sent in their charts and over what seemed several editions the charts were exhaustively analysed. My chart never got beyond January.

Re: Mileage in 1973 or 2013
Checking Garmin and Strava, have so far ridden 565 hours (strava) and 397 activites (garmin), bearing in mind that includes days where activites have been separated from 'warm up' rides to race events on the same day. None of them seem to record actual number of days that were ridden, I guess I could go thru and count Despite the miles I do clock I doubt there is a year where I have cycled every day as there have always been days out for various reasons..

According to Garmin Connect I've ridden 547 times totalling 5454.83 miles at 14.4 mph with each ride being 9.97 miles on average.
I've got a spreadsheet going back to 2010 and already set up for years 2014 & 2015 which totals 70 work sheets.

I didn't ride ( one of ) my bike(s) every day in 1973.
I went to Santa Pod in my dad's car on 25th August.

I started recording my mileage in a diary when I bought my Roberts in Nov 2006. So far we have covered 52,112 miles together. Annual mileage is steadily increasing - I'm on course to exceed 10,000 miles for the first time this year (9,597 so far).

10,000miles in a year?
eileithyia did that a year or two ago, and it's phenomenal.
10,000mies in a year means cycling an average of 27miles per day.
The problem with hitting an average mileage, if you miss a day, you have to do double the mileage the next day just to keep up.
How the heck do you find the time?
I can - and do - cycle five times a week, and sadly, sometimes only three or four times a week. I get out at about 09:00 but like to get back home around lunch time. That gives me a max of three hours - 3hrs at 11mph (because of the hills) makes 33miles. Do that five times and I make 160miles as an absolute maximum - and often only half that, so I'm on course for (only) 4,000odd miles.

I only work part time and my hours are shrinking fast!
I generally do about 30 miles on a morning leaving the rest of the day for chores etc. Saturday is usually 60 -70, then about 40 with a club on Sunday morning. I usually have one day a week with no cycling for normal family days out etc. I'm also a tad obsessive!
If I remember rightly Eileithya has a full time job - now that's seriously impressive!
