Interesting stuff but am I alone in finding
In 1968 Cycling UK secured access for cycles to use bridleways.
just a little untrue?
Surely CTC, now known as CUK, secured access or am I being bitterly pedantic?

If you were being bitterly pedantic you would have said the Cyclists' Touring Club and pointed out that they only secured access for riders of bicycles to use bridleways  .

The Countryside Act 1968 is very specific about the type of cycling allowed on a bridleway.
Riding of pedal bicycles on bridleways.
(1)Any member of the public shall have, as a right of way, the right to ride a bicycle, [F85not being a mechanically propelled vehicle], on any bridleway, but in exercising that right cyclists shall give way to pedestrians and persons on horseback.

Two wheels good, any other number bad.

Let's look a little wider: that link is to a media release and it will be interesting to see which non-cycling media, if any, run the story.
