Budget MTB around £250-£350

Post by saiklist »

Ok, I have a mountain bike already set up for trails but I am after a second mountain bike to use for commuting (3 miles road and 2 miles off-road) & leisurely off-road weekend jaunts with the other half.

The most strenuous activity I'd expect the bike to be regularly capable of are day long rides through the south downs and north downs.

As a starting point I am looking into the B'Twin Rockrider 520 for £250

Just wondering if there are any other mountain bikes around this price bracket (£250-£350) that are worth a ganders?

Cheers,

I bought my son an adults Felt 7 ex rental second hand in vgc from Sherwood Pines about 2 years ago. Fully serviced for £200.
Might be worth a look.

Lose the suspension forks and you're down to 12kg for those day rides:

But whatever you get at this pricepoint will be a significant compromise of some kind. I would be looking second hand.

Go to Decathlon their £159 MTB is an ideal commuter.

Look at Gumtree/eBay/classifieds. Used MTBs are a buyer's market. I got an as-new Cannondale Trail 4 for what boiled down to half price at £300.
Often seen riding a bike around Dundee...
