New Bike

Post by AndR109 »

Hi Guys and Girls,

New member here couldn't find the intro page so just doing it here along with my post.

Been on mountain bikes since 2012 with my Giant Revel LTD 0 which has served me well and still is (with a fork transplant). Anyway recently, during furlough have been on it lots and taking it places I hadn't before and I liked it. The muddier, steeper and more technical the better, need to learn to jump but at almost 40 I need to loosen the body up a bit  . I think Trail to All Mountain would be the bike type I would go for.

Anyway, pending on what happens with the job post furlough I am thinking a new more purpose built bike is in order. Budget is possibly in the mid £2k range. Below are a few links to the ones I was looking at. I know in my head which is the most likely but I thought I would get some unbiased opinions.

I won't give my thoughts but I feel that there are 2 that stand out both with value for money and one of those 2 on its versatility.

Your help is appreciated and thanks for welcoming me to the forum. Current steed in the photo, excuse the dodgy mud guards, only recently discovered the nice sleek ones that fit close to wheel.

Thanks
Andy :)

Re: New Bike

So I was out again on the Giant on some trails which required a bit more skill. I found that tree roots were my enemy, found myself getting stuck at those point. Lack of a proper climbing gear showed and it was knackering.

I went to Beecraigs park in central Scotland. I don’t find the trail markers very good. What I saw of the green and blue trails they were not particularly challenging, again due to poor signage. I found myself on the red route which is where I found the rootiest terrain. The bike slipped off roots and stalled on bigger routes. I would say that the stalking is skill, or lack of it, mostly.

Looking at the bikes. I had thought I had put a Canyon in there too. That and the Specialized were the 2 most expensive. I feel that the YT examples are best value for money and of the two of those the Jeffsy is the more flexible for £100 more.

Thanks
Andy
