Martin nail trail

Post by Bassquake »

Hello peeps....
Bought a mountain bike from the "flea" market yesterday... a marin nail Trail.... its in pretty good nick...
however, the welding on it looks really rough and ready, and this made me think that maybe the previous owner had just put these Marin stickers on the bike.... I also have a Cannondale tourer and the welds on this are invisible...

Wonder if its fake?

thanks chaps

Yep, we've got a couple of Marins, both bought new, and the welding is seriously rough on both. Shame.

On the Cannondales the filed the welds to make them smooth. The Nail Trail is an aluminium bike, so it has larger welds, and the don't file them. The only thing to worry about is if the welds are irregular. If they are very even, than that's fine. Most Marins I've seen (and I own two) have extremely even welds, although the Alu ones tend to be large.

Can you post some pictures? May be easier to judge whether it looks right. Other option would be to email Marin UK the serial number?
