Steel frame mtb for female

Post by Carolanne »

Hi all, my first post after lurking a while. I am having difficulty finding a steel frame mtb. I really would like steel as I love the look of the slim tubes and I have found my previous aluminium bike very harsh. I am petite 5.2". I cannot find off the peg bikes to fit. I know genesis bikes do a steel frame but I think 16 inch frame would be too big? I cannot afford to go custom and spend over a grand.

Hi Carolanne,
are you looking for a fully rigid F&F or just frame ?
I know Marin build a 13" fully rigid cro-mo Muirwoods. My 1995 model is still going strong. Today they sell them as urban MTBs so you'd maybe need to do a tyre switch to take it onto loose surfaces. I agree with you on the slim tube point. It does look better.
Having said that I recently moved to a Specialized Rockhopper Pro and have not looked back. The only thing I wish now is that I'd gone for full-sus with intelligent or lockable shock as I've re-discovered the joy of being airborne :D .
I've also asked the guys on mtbrider if they have any suggestions for you.

Cheers,
Paul.

Someone suggested this to me - 14" cromo frame - they can build it up for you too :-)

Thanks for that, just been looking at the on-one website, very nice indeed and they do 14 inch frames. I will have to wait though, they are out of small sizes and waiting for the ship to come in with new stock.

Glad to help. :)
I think someone's selling one on ebay - unused - v. cheap and I reckon you could get a bargain, but no feedback, so buyer beware!
