hello peeps,
my wife and i will be spending a week at winskill near penrithand will be taking our mtb's.
any suggestions on easy/ moderate bridleway rides of up to 35km?
don't want to be driving for hours to get to the start, riding from penrith area would be nice, as little road as possible please.
have looked at some routes online for cumbria area but seem to have more than 50% on road.

If you have an O.S. map of the lakes then have a look at the east side of Ullswater. "High Street" runs up there and you may be able to sort out a route around there. Most of the Lakes routes are lumpy and will require some road sections to join them together.
Other routes around the Langdales are viable but hilly.
There are plenty of fire roads and tracks in Grizedale forest with specific MTB rides signposted.
There is a bridleway "Back of Skiddaw" which is good.
As usual remember some of these areas are very open so make sure you carry the requisite clothing etc.

thanks, usefull info.
in the winter i carry a plastic bivvy bag, a couple of space blankets, a cut down space blanket to wrap torso, spare gloves, spare heady/buffs, and a two person emergency bothy and plenty of food.
