Just back from my third visit to Shetland.
A great place with wonderful folk and scenery.
Weather can be a challenge at times but roads are smooth and rolling.
I'm not a racer by any means but the publicity given by Mark Beaumont and others to the Herbrean Way and the North Coast 500 got me thinking about a Shetland End to End.
My map puts it at about 85 miles with 2 ferries. So a reasonable day one way and a fair challenge for a 24 hour return trip.
Anyone know of this route/ idea is recognised in a semi/ official way?
Is it something the tourist board of Shetland may be interested in promoting?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Matt

You are probably aware that Shetland is part of the North Sea Cycle route: http://www.northsea-cycle.com
I'm not aware of a one-day cycle from one end to the other being a recognised event, but planning to do the route in a more leisurely manner at the end of May.

Thanks. Yes, I saw the north sea cycle route signs.

Re: Shetland end to end?
There was a guy a while back talking about a Scotland west coast end to end from Mull of Galloway to the northernmost point of Shetland. Good route for scenery/ferries.
I've thought about it. Ardrossan to Canmpbelltown. Oban to Barra. Ullapool Stornaway. Then Orkney Shetland ferries and return to Aberdeen on the way home.

That could have been me! 2 years ago I did the top of Shetland to Mull of Galloway. Via Lewis, Harris, Eigg and Skye.
Camped and stopped if frequently, so not a race in any way.
Caught good weather more often than not and managed Ben Nevis as well.
It was seeing Mark B do the end to end of the Western Isles that got me thinking if the Shetland End 2 End.
Maybe it's not significant enough? Whatever that means in tourist speak!
