Schwalbe supreme 28-622

Post by pickerd »

Wants happened to these tyres? They don't seem to be available anywhere in 28mm size!!
Any alternatives? Similar price and weight?

According to the Schwalbe website they're no longer made:- http://www.schwalbe.com/gb/tour-reader/ ... preme.html
I can't offer an alternative but I'm sure someone will be along shortly with some offerings from Continental.

Panracer Pasela? A bit lighter and with a more vulnerable sidewall than the Supreme, but a good option if you don't plan on going off the tarmac. I have them as my default tyre on my tourer (32mm) and they roll well, get very few punctures and last well.

They have been replaced with a new model. It was mentioned on here a few weeks ago...

Spa have been listing the wired version for a while ( described as 'last seasons' in their offers section ) in 700 x 28mm.

Hopefully they're still in stock, just ordered a pair.

It's a pity if the new version is only available in 32mm+. I put the 28mm version on the bikes of my wife and daughter last summer, as their bikes did not have room for a wider tyre without the danger of toe touching the mudguard. Ideally they would have had bikes with longer "front centres", but sometimes you just make the best of what you have. And the 28mm Supremes seemed to perform really well on the backroads of Provence, with bikes loaded with panniers. Maybe our needs were just a bit too niche for the manufacturer.

Yes, it's a shame as Spa have sold out of the folding 700x28 but still have the wired version.

Irritating because I like the folding version and it would have been perfect for my light tourer: still, I have Supreme 700x 32 and 35's on other bikes and it's a cracking tyre. Best road touring tyre I've ever had :D Many years ago, I had Conti Top Touring and many people swore by them but, in hindsight, that tyre wasn't a patch on the Supreme for comfort, low rolling resistance, and puncture resistance.

I've fitted some supreme 32s. I'm very pleased with then - much lighter than the Panaracer Tourguards that I removed.
I also note that the supremes are quite a bit narrower than the Tourguards, both x32.
I think I can manage without the x28. Result.
