Supporter of the A10 corridor cycling campaign serving Royston to Cambridge http://a10corridorcycle.com. Never knew gardening secateurs were an essential part of the on bike tool kit until I took up campaigning.....
Re: Do newspapers do this on purpose?
In the case of the Daily Heil? Yes. There's a thread for it on Mailwatch.
Re: Do newspapers do this on purpose?
The survey is done by vouchercodepro, which is just used to generate publicity for them.
Here's what they say about drivers
"The survey has revealed that as many as fourth fifths of Britons break the law whilst driving, with a quarter of them doing so on a daily basis. The study’s findings indicate that 71% of drivers who break the law commit speeding offences, while 47% of drivers who break the law do so by either texting or taking a phone call while driving. The next three categories are failing to wear a seatbelt, eating while driving or tailgating."

Re: Do newspapers do this on purpose?
I find it amazing that the so called “elite drivers” are still paying a road tax, I wonder who they pay it to.
Re: Do newspapers do this on purpose?
Just realize the rest of the paper is written to the same high standards.
Recent clickbait you may have missed.....
67% of Saxons & Picts want the Normans out of England, damn immigrants.
Old Soviet saying.
There is no truth in Pravda and no news in Isvestia.

The study’s findings indicate that 71% of drivers who break the law commit speeding offences,
and that 28% lie on questionnaires.
I am being generous in allowing that 1% never speed.
The 71% is the figure for those who are above the speed limit at all times that it isnt outright perilous* to be so.
*normally to their licence.

Do they do this on purpose to rile up dissent between cyclist and motorists?
Yes
Controversy attracts attention. For example the Mail website has received several extra visitors from this forum through publishing that story, hence marginally boosting their potenential advertising revenue capability. Repeat thousand of times with similar controversial stories, and hey presto they're making more money than before.

Re: Do newspapers do this on purpose?
Why do people complain any media doing articles to pit cyclists against motorists whilst posting such articles thus promoting them and more visits in the process.
Seriously people if you find such an article do not promote it on here or anywhere. It does no good.

That's funny - all the cyclists I know are motorists too

That's funny - all the cyclists I know are motorists too. And we have all passed a test which entitles us to ride a moped, let alone a bike.
The Daily Fail is just divisive

Do they do this on purpose to rile up dissent between cyclist and motorists?
Yes. Particularly papers like the Mail, Express, Sun and Telegraph, but even the Grauniad does occasionally if not quite so blatantly.

Yes. That's it, really.

One does not know whether to laugh or cry, just like in the cinema. Probably both.
I am a cyclist who drives too, I have never been caught driving too fast.
But I was once stopped by West Merci Police because I was driving slowly, maybe 22 when max 30 was allowed.
I think I should be proud of this. Any comments?
