Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
Had a look at the busch and miller mount, that looks promising.
Those low rider bosses for the forks look interesting and a potential option, however, I use front panniers so this could potentially obscure the light? I assume both wouldn’t really work together?

... why not something like that ..
Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
Conrad, what light and mount is that?
Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
In this specific case is a very common Edelux+mounting bracket but I guess you can do exactly the same with (almost) any light !
As you can see the headlight is well below the handlebar bag and so far road "floodlight" is absolutely perfect.

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
Ah I see, it's a dynamo set up though. Ideally I will have a front lamp there, battery driven rather than dynamo though. That's the issue.

There are some photographs on this page that give you ideas. Things like simple bar ends attached to drops, flipped stems with modified flat bars to take accessories, etc.

ok, here below is DIY USB/battery powered solution
Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
I've used the bar that fits underneath a Carradice bar bag and it's acceptable but no more. It's secure, the light certainly won't fall off nor will the bar detach from the bag, but it jiggles around - up and down more than side to side - in a very distracting way. I've now replaced it with a bracket from B&M I think, though it could have been R&K - anyway, I got it from SJS - which I have on the bar of a front rack but would equally well fit on a fork crown. It copes very well with a heavy battery light.
Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
There are also mounts that bolt to the fork crown
but then provide a handlebar diameter mount
onto which a handlebar-mounted light can be attached.

Onto which something like this can then be mounted:

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
Dismantlle a Minoura Space Grip, and attach the metal "u" shaped bracket to the fork mount
Then attach the outer end to the bracket.
Good firm mount for your lights

If you're not using the low-rider boss, then one of these works....http://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s169p1102/PASSPORT-Front-Fork-Lamp-Bracket
This one might be strong enough to fit above the low-riders....http://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s169p2789/RIXEN-KAUL-Mini-Mount-2012

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
The continental manufacturers Spanninga, AXA/Basta and Union/Marwi make fork crown mounted battery lights. I sold a Spanninga Corona light on here only recently.
Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
These two work well....the light is surprisingly bright. 2 AA batteries.

2 minutes to fit.

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
If you have an Ortlieb bar bag Ortlieb sell a kind of pogo stick device that pokes up above your bag to which you can mount a light. I do not recommend them. I have broken two, once catching my bike as it fell over, the second going over some root bumps the thing just snapped. They are quite expensive ($34 US) and as ugly as sin.

Re: Front Lights (not on the handlebars)
I keep reading this thread and still can't find out why the OP didn't want the normal solution for barbag/lights:

Was it looks or not having a threadless stem or what? What have I missed?
