Non-Dynamo crown mounted front lights..

Hello all,

Just thought I'd ask on here if anyone knows of any battery powered fork-crown mounted front lights?

I've seen this one: https://www.velovitality.co.uk/collections/front-lights/products/ikzi-nero-front-bullet-light which I rather like the look of, but cannot find any furether info from Google (and the shop hasn't responded to my email as yet).

Basically, I'm looking for a legally compliant light that securely mounts to the bike, rather than the handlebars.

The requirement for battery rather than dynamo is due to the cost of replacing a perfectly servicable front wheel...

B&M Ixon mount with a B&M Ixon front lamp? I'm not sure if the bracket works with all the lights, but this is where I would start.

Edit: The lamp you linked to is only 10 lux and at that output would be a 'be seen' and not a 'see by' lamp. If you cycle unlit rural lanes then I would suggest one of the B&M 80 lux lamps. The B&M lamps are StVZO rated and so will be 'legal' standard in the UK.

I believe Halfords do a large chrome one, shaped like a bullet.

I use the Spaninga Luceo, bought from abroad.

Not sure you will ever get one that is BS approved though.

Just get a suitable bracket to mount any handlebar mounted light on the fork crown.

One problem is that mounting a light on the frame makes it more subject to vibration and worse, whereas handlebar mounting allows more shock absorption. Not so much of a problem with a relatively lightweight dynamo light, but the likely greater weight of a battery light means greater risk of bracket failure etc - worth bearing in mind.

Another plus point of bar mounting lights is less shadow from front wheel. I like my front light pointing 6-8 feet ahead of the front wheel, not possible with a fork crown mount.

I haven't had it long enough to give a full review. It is 20 lux, and I find it reasonably bright. It made a set of batteries go flat by themselves. When I opened it, one of the batteries was out of place, so I think it made a short circuit. I think I will use some selotape to stop it happening again. The light can droop if the bolt holding it is not done up very tight. I think a spiky washer would help this.

In general I find crown mounted lights look much tidier. Handlebar mounted lights look a bit temporary to me.

probably could be used to retrofit another light to the crown. can't say I've ever had a problem with bar mounted lights in terms of throw or blinding oncoming road users.
this fits/detaches easily in seconds even on bars with cables tucked under the bar tape on drops and is bright enough for unlit roads with excellent shaped beam, only 25Lux but enough for all but the very highest speed/twisty descents, it also has an amazing run time especially with Fujitsu rechargeables, I love it. I wouldn't mind seeing if I could get it on a fork mount though to see how it fares.
