Training Plan for Prudential Ride

Post by RyanNobson »

Hello, I recently started a blog following my training and generally all things to do with cycling.

For my first post I wrote a training plan for the Prudential Ride London - Surrey and would love for you guys to check it out. And tell me what you think!
https://dbsncycling.wordpress.com/ is my blog.

Many thanks!

From a 1 hour steady ride to 5+ hour fast rides on three consecutive days in only five weeks! Brilliant, and good luck. I guess that's what dreams are made of.

Not sure how limited places means you have to train hard to succeed ?

It's not clear who your plan is aimed at. Is this someone who has sat on their backside till 5 weeks before the event.? Steady usually just means constant effort not necessarily slow. If a rider is new to a training plan and if using yours likely so, so how will the rider know what is steady and what is fast? Also don't forget many of the Prudential times are the result of closed roads and the group effect not because many of the riders are fast, they will not ride anywhere need that average speed on open roads on their own.

Looking at your plan there seems to be a lot of riding. One week 25 1/2 hours including 5 hours each on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I don't know of many people who could find the time. I also don't know anyone who could or would want to ride 'fast' for ~ 5 hours on 4 out of 5 days. The only people who I can think of who either have the time or fitness would be professional cyclists taking part in a stage race.

Please see this 7 week plan from BC. Maximum of 8 hours a week and plenty of shorter but fast effort to allow for recovery.

Have you tried this plan?

The weekly progression is far too great and the actual amount of cycling is far too high. One five hr ride a week is more than sufficient for most people and even that's highly debatable. I know plenty of people who race at a high level and seldom do more than a weekly 3 hr ride, along with some shorter stuff. Most people probably don't cycle for much more than 8-10 hrs a week. You'd be far better off following one of the British Cycling plans as another poster has suggested, or one of those on the ride 100 website.

I don't think that Ryan NOBSON even exists. Have you seen Life of Brian?
