Did you have a puncture shortly after taking the ball photo

PS, where was the Black Swan on the L&L?
I ask as a few years ago there was one in one of the Flashes in the Wigan/Leigh area.

The Swan was down the Leeds end all one summer looking a bit mournful without a mate, made some

weird noises 'n all as I recall.

I'm cycling down the Wigan end now, having moved over from Leeds, I was on the towpath coming

back from Rivington just yesterday, very nice with the settled weather this week.

Weird feathers on these Swans..

Funnily enough I got my first puncture for a good while on the towpath last week ( Blackthorn ?),

it wasn't raining so I kept smiling.

What's a Flash by the way, never heard that usage before?

The eyes have it  .
The Wigan coalfields(most worked coal fields in Europe) have been worked for centuries, with one seam extracted over the top another, the resultant depression of the landscape causes it to flood, initially it was seasonal 'flash' flooding, but as more seams were worked it became permanent and the resultant lakes became known as flashes.
If you ride the L&L towpath from the centre of Wigan toward Leigh you'll pass Scotsman's flash on the right,Pearson's on the left, then another small one on the right,Turner's Flash(out of sight from the towpath)on the left.after the first railway bridge on the left there's Horrock's Flash.
After the next main West coast railway bridge and then the road bridge, there's a couple more small flashes on the right, after the next road bridge at the Dover lock inn there's another sizeable flash on the right. Then there's Pennington flash wildlife reserve after the swing bidge.
After that your leaving the Wigan coal field,so no more flashes.

Its a nice ride with a well surfaced towpath :) .

When a wer a lad the cut(as it was always termed) was flithy, coal was king and the canal traffic was all coal barges, there were five pits on that seven mile stretch of canal alone and another five within the five mile radius of Wigan :)

yet, I may have a ride down there next week if it stays dry.
