New bell.

Post by reohn2 »

I've just bought one of these:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381475343790? ... EBIDX%3AIT
It looks very well made(SS and brass according to the blurb) with no plastic bits, and the ring is much louder than many others I've tried in the past.
It's early days yet but for I fiver it looks the bis.
BTW other sellers have them for the same price but UK sellers are slightly more expensive, though you wouldn't need to wait three weeks like wot I did as mine came from Hong Kong :?

New bell.

My Rock Bros arrived in just over a week. £8 posted. Tiny. Almost invisible. Out the way of flight controls. A bit fiddly to fit and no instructions. Posh packaging. Lovely tring. What's not to like?

Ha, mine came this week too. Who first posted it here? we must have ordered around the same time.
I got a silver one and will probably order another. It's a good ding and a neat fitting, plus nice and small on the bars. Time will tell if it was a good buy, but first impressions are very positive.

I didn't order silver. Mine was a different colour. Silver ones are easy to fit.

The £2 extra I paid was worth it then? I fitted it to a 1 year old MTB I've just got as a winter hack/off road tourer. Now I get moaned at by people who don't like bike bells a few weeks earlier than you'll get moaned at.

Bonus.

Some year ago I removed bells from my bikes due to same problems :?
And funnily enough the bell I bought was for an old MTB hack that I've just built :D
PS,mine's stealth black so no one knows it's me

This thread caught my eye as I was thinking of getting a bell, currently none of my bikes are equipped with a bell.

However after following the link it sort of reminded me of an article I read a little while ago, which I have just located:-

The bottom line is,would you pay £45 to £50 for a bicycle bell?
I wouldn't,TBH I wouldn't pay £15 for one.
A tenner would IMO be a reasonable cost for a quality bell.

That said,at time of purchase I'd never heard of the Spurcycle bell, but I was impressed with the bell I bought from Hong Kong at what I thought was a very reasonably priced bit of nice kit.
So I Googled the makers name, with a view to buying probably 50 and selling them on Ebay, and found out the RockBros bell was a copy of the Spurcycle one.
I've no problem with that,I've a big problem with spending £45 to £50 on a bell, and an even bigger one should I wish to equip all five of my bikes with them, however good the quality.
I have some sympathy with Spurcycle but the product isn't patented and so is open to copy.

Just found this thread - thanks for posting. Ordered from eBay today.

Have no qualms about ordering the cheapo version...as the spurcycle price is wayyy too expensive for what it is. If it was closer in price (perhaps double or double and a bit), I'd have ordered the real version. But at 10 times the price, I simply cannot justify paying that.

Variation on a theme : https://euro.knog.com.au/bike/accessori ... bells.html - just installed on one of my bikes. (Shop around for price ... and there's already a Chinese copy on ebay)
