I saw one of these today owned by a middle aged man in Streatham High St london

What do people here think of them with the single sided front fork. The guy said it rode very well and was very happy with it wizzing around London. I wonder how long before that fork or front wheel attachment fails? not for big people?

I dont understand why the need for a single sided fork? I know some motor bikes have a rear wheel like that - shafties? but not front wheels

There have been lefty Dales in the MTB world for some years now.

I don't see much point in them either -apart from less weight and mechanics (in the suspension versions) but all the owners I've talked to - swear by them.

Owning some Dales has always made you a bit of slave to their specific parts - although a lot of hub manufacturers now have lefties in their ranges.

I've not had anyone tell me they've broken one, but I am still a bit wary

I have had a Cannondale Rush 2000 Mtb with a carbon fibre pneumatic Lefty for the past 6 years. Its great. Been all over on it rocks, mud, chalk, jumps etc. The cantilever axle is made of high tensile steel. The seals went a couple of years ago and they were replaced.

There ARE Bikes with a single sided chainstay. Not sure if any of them are Dales though.

Probably not and steering would differ depending on which way you turned

I've got one, bit of fun really, bit heavy but it's just an adults BMX really. They have a bit of a cult following, I've converted mine to drop bars and double chain ring. I did the Isle of Wight randonee on it last year got loads of interest.
