Who's had all the 26" wheels?
Who's had all the 26" wheels?
I want a pair with disc brake hubs and QR's, shimano freehub, they seem almost as rare as hens teeth, who's had them all? Must have been millions of them a few years back?
Re: Who's had all the 26" wheels?
an LBS with a Raleigh account can supply such wheels with (IIRC) Mach1 rims, M525 hubs. Spokes are nothing special, hubs will need setting up properly, and usual caveats re build quality apply.
Or you could get some built.
cheers

I have mine built at Merlin - and get exactly the rims hubs etc I want (although the last set I bought off them were Hope Hoops).
They sometimes have sales on too - especially on wheels

Chainreactioncycles had a lot in their January sale at the weekend... Sales is still on if they have any left

only 32 spokes?
I would have thought since the rims wont wear out might as well get some really goods ones as they should last a very long time?

Re: Who's had all the 26" wheels?
The strange thing with Rose wheels is that it is cheaper (in many instances) to buy a complete ready built wheel from them rather than the sum of its parts....I still like to build my own so tend to waste a bit of money and do the latter. Most odd. They also tend to use the spoke nipples without the slotted head (which admittedly is not so dramatic).

Try Taylor Wheels from Germany...huge range of wheels and hubs of good quality at very good prices. I had a new rear wheel for my daughters mtb not long ago, double walled, 36 eyeletted spokes about £35..excellent!

Rose wheels are cheap but not nasty, there's a few people on the forum, including myself, who've bought them and been impressed by the build quality and good quick service.

32 spokes are enough for solo 26inch wheels due to the smaller diameter, unless unless carrying some serious weight on expedition tourers,MTBers usually ride 1.9inch+ wide tyres and suspension mostly which takes the brunt of the abuse.

If you do go for 32 spokes, make sure you go for eyelitted rims. I've had some bad experiences with non-eyeltted ones - even Mavic

The ones in the Rose link are a quality item with double eyelets
They're also rated at Rose's Cat3 :-
Category 3 includes all bikes and components that should only be used in conditions described under category 1 and 2, as well as on rough trails and rough
and unpaved roads that require good cycling skills. Jumps and drops should not
be higher than 60 cm.

Was going to say £60 each custom built?
