SUGINO OX601D crankset question

Post by GeorgeDR »

Hello-I have a Sugino OX601D crankset that unfortunately is missing the left hand crank arm (lost in a shed clearing exercise!). I have done an internet search for spare parts but this particular part seems to be hard to get. My question is whether anybody knows if a Hollowtech II crank arm from Shimano would work as these are easily available. Many thanks.

The thin walled spindle OX601 cranks were recalled and replaced in 2015.
I had one break on me, the day after receiving the recall notice.
The replaced crank has been fine since then.

the spline interface between the crank and the spindle is the same in any event, and it is rather different to the Shimano one.

FWIW I think the crank in the photo I posted upthread is the sort that has been recalled because it is liable to break. The sort that are OK have (I think) thicker walled spindles (without grooves in the end) and/or polished bearing mounting surfaces on the spindle.

A translation of the Japanese from the webpage reads (I think) as follows

A: Polished bearing surface, M15 or M18 'pusher', OK
B: Black bearing surface, M18 pusher, Recall
C: Black bearing surface, M15 pusher, groove on end of spindle, Recall
D: Black bearing surface, M15 pusher, no groove, OK.

cheers
