I play rock guitar (not in a band any more)

I watch loads of HK kung fu films (much to my wife's dismay)
(I have 200 dvds so far  )

I am currently a green sash (bout half way) in Lau Gar Kuin . (southern kung fu style)
Sorry mikeitup. The sig just had to go. The forum staff are revolting ! Graham

Books railways cooking history languages fell walking (NOT munrobagging, that involves far too much driving just like serious *twitching*, - 27!)

Talking to strangers on trains

Climbing towers and spires, that goes well with cycling cos one can get the lie of the land

At Ulm in Germany I conquered the highest church spire in the world, 768 steps, 149 m ascent, the platform is nearly at the top of the spire

Been up plenty of church towers, it is always worth asking. Some are officially opened only a few times a year

Climbing towers by stairs, not lifts! Just been up a church spire, 544 steps, 123 m high
A great way to get the Lie of the Land, plan to go there again soon in different weather, could be great on a misty day

Many years ago fire-watchers dwelled in towers, if they saw a fire they had to make a great noise to wake people

Try St Botolphs church in Boston, Lincolnshire. The tower otherwise known as "The Stump" fab view even from the first landing. :D very narrow spiral stair way which gets even narrower the higher you get. Well worth a visit the church is fabulous even in it's own right.
Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

Not a church, but some years ago we visited the Wallace Monument near Stirling, which commands a superb view from the top. That is also ascended by way of a narrow spiral staircase.

Bad news: as I was climbing it, there was a man in a kilt also climbing the steps.
Good news: he was below me, not above....

Boston was an 'interesting' place to visit, I thought. Better days have been seen :?

More bad news, you should have gone below him, then you could have answered the eternal question, 'what do Scotsmen wear under their kilts?'

Maybe you don't quite get my point. That was absolutely and categorically the last thing I wanted to learn about Scotsmen, thank you very much!
