Route suggestions in the Nice - Marseille region

Post by DJGShef »

Does anyone know if there are coastal cycling routes in this area (preferably between the two cities) that follow the coast that are also reasonable to do for a casual cycle tour? I fear the coast roads are all too dangerous to contemplate and unfortunately the inland routes too hilly. Suggestions please.

Hi,

Depends when you travel. May/ June not so busy but good weather.
Just off to Nice again next week and expect all the roads will be ok to ride.
Also there are loads of cycle paths along the coast.

I have not ridden in or out of Marseille though but have never had any trouble in cities in France.

The short stretch ( about an hour in a car) of coastal road from Frejus to Cannes is superb, with little traffic. Very much like Cornwall. Was down there last week.
If you do get to Nice, you MUST check out the ''Distilleries Ideals'' just off the Cours Seleya, in the Old town (Rue de la Perfecture). Happy hour 6-8 pm, check out the Bierre Blanche, or Cerise. The internals are a cross between Heath Robinson and Jules Verne, Ie pulley operated wafting fans, worked by belts from what appear to be sewing machine motors, superb place.
