Respray

It’s at best a hypothetical question, but seeing as there are extra parts and all that on a laidback and less knowledgeable dealers, where would you go for a respray and how much would it cost?

(I think in my case I would go with a car place and just have to handle the disassembly and reassembly, though I’m not sure I fancy cleaning out the threads for all the joints).

I've had a Brom and a TSR repainted (powder coated rather than sprayed) by Ben Cooper at Kinetics (or rather by Ben's friendly neighbourhood powder-coating specialist, who also paints Kinetics new-builds). You have the option of doing as much of the strip-down or rebuilding as you can be buttocked to do (that would be "none at all" in my case), and the more you do the less you pay.

I'm very happy with the results on both. The Moulton (which has a more complex frame than most, of course) was £250 including total strip and rebuild with various bits of remedial rust removal. The Brom was more of a refresh, including new rear triangle, upgraded rear lamp, significant quantities of new transmission, pivot replacements and brake upgrades in addition to its smart new coat of paint. Total for the lot was £480 and it's almost like a new bike for less than half price.

Next year it'll be the 8-Freight.
