What gear range do you use.

I was looking through my bikes and their relative gears and made a list. Just wondered what others were using?

- sitting
- standing
- walking

I find that range sufficient.

Commuter: 31-102. I can easily go lower by changing cassette, should I take it somewhere hilly.

No, there's loads of hills many of them pretty steep, although nothing very long as the highest point in the county is only 420m high. I bought a compact chainset and a longer cage rear mech about 5 years ago so I could put on a wider cassette but have never got around to fitting them. I'll probably leave it until I start to find the current gearing hard going.

7 machines. All 6 on gears have the range 24-92 whether it is on a triple based on 8 speed or an Alpine double based on 10 speed: the fixed wheel is 64.

It's a bent trike so 0 mph is so easy, I can just sit there while clipped in ........
It's also the reason I get away with the silly high and low gears

Rolling backwards is more 'fun' because I tend to jackknife the trailer in a few yards ...........

Sir Chris Hoy is on the forum .

On another thread someone said the were wary of cycling scotland due to the close contours. But when I went around it the hills varied from long drags to perhaps 10-12%. Cornwall on the other hand seemed to have some very severe gradients( 1 in 4 or 1 in 5 ) following the coast like the fingers of an outstretched hand you'd drop into a place then have a seriously steep climb out. So 41 inches as lowest gear is very worthy of respect.
