Recumbents on trains

Post by NUKe »

What are peoples experience of taking recumbent on trains specifically SWB bikes like my grasshopper. Looking to do a C2C (Wales to home) , and trying to work out if the logistics are worth it. The Grasshopper is not the folder.

The Grasshopper is smaller than the Streetmachine, and aside from manhandling it on and off it's never been an issue. As far as booking spaces etc. is concerned it's just another bike (occasionally TOCs have brain-farts about 'bents, but during the time when GNER specifically forbade them we still had no trouble actually using their services. Staff on the platform are not generally interested in these diktats and are happy to help get where you're going IME).

My wife and I have done all our big tours on SWB 'bents with rail to and from the start and end points, including just turning up at a station assuming they'll let us on, and no deal-breakers to date.

Pete.
