Positive thread alert, bees are kept on top of many buildings in Berlin, no-one knows they are there, someone just a collects the honey occasionally. The city is full of parks and gardens with different plants, much better for insects than the country now

The Guardian reports that microwave cooking uses less energy than other methods
I make my porridge in the microwave each morning after breakfast for the next day: groats, coarse oats, fine oats, oat bran, lots of water, the product is deliciously "creamy"

If only the BREXIT referendum vote was as decisive. Just goes to show that more politicians need to eat porridge.....

Then we'd end up with a Westminster full of porridge lovers/eaters passing legislation banning porridge from the UK.

No they didn't. :( (and made it plain it wasn't wise to ask)

It was both one of the most expensive and the least friendly place I've stayed in in Scotland. This was bordering on being a hotel, whereas the family run guest houses were very friendly and would put themselves out to be helpful.

Oh dear, one of my favourite stories, what would have happened if one had asked for more? :?

Porridge makes a fine start to the day, I take mine with raisins and a quality honey, makes for a great mix of fast and slow release carbs!

No it doesn't.
Porridge is horrible.

It all depends on what you like or you don't like.
You think it's a fine start to the day, and I don't.

I'm trying to lose some weight and, as a result, I've recently got into it (not literally, although I believe oats are good for the skin).

Have moved from the relative luxury of Flavahan's rolled oats with milk and all manner of adjuncts (banana, peanut butter, cinnamon, berries) to the puritanical austerity of just oatmeal, water and salt.

I really like it but I never quite get the whole "it fills you up for the whole morning" thing. I find that I suddenly get absolutely ravenous an hour or so after eating a big bowl.

That is Bircher muesli - porridge is cooked. When well made (i.e. to one's individual preference) both are good.

Oats are slow release complex carbohydrates, you could try eating qr cc too, I like rice pudding (contains a lot of sugar I think)

I like porridge a lot, I'm a great fan. We feed it (sometimes) to our horses, so all I get when I eat it is stupid sarcastic whinnying sounds from my wife.

Do they prefer it to raw oats?
