Today I became the owner of a Raleigh Competition with the following frame number on the underside of the bottom bracket.
WP2001454 Above the figure1 and at right angles to it is the letter S positioned so that it is almost touching the figure 1 and taking up the spaces in the gaps between the 0 and 1 and between the 1 and 4.
It has Campagnolo front and rear mechs/ changers. It's a pearly white colour. Reynolds 531.tubing.
I have tried to find out about it and the only thing I could see is that the letter W could be the factory where it was made was in Worksop?
Is there a Carlton connection? Any ideas on the ID of the builder? What year?
Cheers

"Wander" over to retrobike and somebody will tell you what the chap who made it had for dinner that day. Or very close.

The first letter is where it's produced, in your case Worksop
The second letter is what month, in your case November
The first digit is what year, Competition was made in both '72 and '82. A picture would help
The rest are the production run number.

The serial number system quoted started in 1973 so it looks like your Raleigh Competition is likely a 1982 model.
Have you any pics? I have a 77 frame which I’m yet to build.
