Selected photos of my 4-week tour of the Balkans and Eastern Dolomites

Post by raybo »

In April and May, 2018, I spent 4 weeks riding from Venice to Croatia, Slovenia and the Eastern Dolomites. I took over 2300 pictures and I have culled them down to 65 representative photos.

It was a great tour with some truly incredible places.

Some great photos there, makes me want to go...
Well done for whittling them down! I know it's tough, but it's something that needs to be done, I'm sometimes shown 100's and I'm sure I miss some of the best ones because I'm already overloaded.

Looks fantastic, thank you for sharing those.
We were on the Istrian peninsula last month - we rode down from Grigno in the mountains to catch the Venezia - Rovinj ferry before doing a loop of the southern half and taking the ferry back from Porec.
We really enjoyed it so these pictures have inspired me into looking into going back that way and heading further east/south.

Thanks for posting. Great and inspirational photos.
Something this forum unlike on Cyclechat or CGOAB that is sadly so rare.
As they say a picture paints a thousand words.

A post for the moderators perhaps - These pictures really have set the tone - can we have new heading just for tour pictures and accounts of peoples journeys?

Fabulous. Your strength in reducing the photos to 65 is impressive! Mixing in the odd bit of train and odd bit of bus is sensible and seems to be an area I’m not very good at as I feel I’ve failed at that point (stupid -I know). So I hope I’ve learnt on this one - it’s about enjoying what you’re doing rather than proving something.

Hi, the very last picture is “Porta San Tomaso”, a door that opens onto the sixteenth-century walls of Treviso, certainly the most majestic of its three doors, entirely covered with decorative elements in Istrian stone. Treviso is the town where I was born and lived till I was eleven years old. Just fifty meters past the door on the left there was my school ... definitely at that time there was no cycle-path passing through it. Thanks for sharing such a really well done report.

I've seen the Plitvice National Park and waterfalls on the TV coverage of the Tour of Croatia and Mrs Whoof visited lake Bled on a work trip. As a result this area has been on our list of places to tour for a while.

Looking at your lovely photos it's just moved up the list a notch or two, thanks for sharing them.
