Re: World cup - looking forward?
Maybe the best result would be if the "UK" team loses in the final
Then the quiet times for cycling, walking etc will be most numerous
I suspect an awful lot of fuel would be saved cos motons stay home instead of going driving for fun or to try the ice-cream 30 miles away. Or do they make it up later?
After "we" won the cup in 1966 there was a great mood of optimism, the economy picked up, the UK joined the EU, +1!

The following football enjoys it will please a lot of people.
I take comfort that the TDF is not far away
I am finding this rather funny.
There was a lot of (often vitriolic) complaint about the coverage of the Royal Wedding, yet we accept the far greater coverage of football with very little argument
Re: World cup - looking forward?
World class women's cycle racing in nearby Suffolk, so BBC Norfolk leads on... a men's football team with no local interest AFAIK that is going to play a match far away at some time. Sexism, bike-bashing or what?

Couldn't bear to watch the Royal wedding either. I wonder if the Royal divorce will get as much coverage?

Football's a bit faster moving and arguable more entertaining.
I'll be watching some matches, but didn't watch the royal wedding as I had some paint needing watching dry

Re: World cup - looking forward?
Another reason to hate the world cup...they've interrupted my day-time tv coach potatoing.....no Bargain Hunt today and no Tipping Point yesterday (one of my favourite programs ever as all of the contestants are so think it makes one feel better about ones limited resources....e.g "What instrument does a flutist play? A: an organ." "What's the longest rider in the UK? A. The Nile" ).
Might have to go ride me bike at this rate.

Just come back from a (real ale) beer or three from one of our local pubs, and they had a telly on in one of the back rooms with football showing on it.
Dunno what it's all about and why people want to sit there and watch this stuff, but there was half a dozen blokes largered up and watching it.

Rubik's cube?
Don't get me onto that again!
I often idly do it of an evening.
I have this idea of buying a couple of cubes and giving them to friends and teaching how to do it.
Boring?
No worse than football methinks.

Talking of Rubik Cubes (didn't we have a recent thread about them?) - well I'm still baffled over this totally evil dodecahedron-shaped variant sitting on our coffee table, known in the trade as the Megaminx:
As you can probably see, I've got the top two layers, and a bit of the third, solved. I reckon this is as far as I'll get....
Not something to battle away at 24/7 - even if you're totally bored with the footie. One soon throws the vile thing down in disgust. How anyone with a shred of compassion can have dreamt up this form of torture....

Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
