Aukey powerbanks - opinions?

I have an Anker Powercore 20,100 - very pleased with it.

Got it for about £24 I think not too long ago, but after some pricing jiggery pokery, increasing the price then claiming bigger discounts, Anker seems to have put it to up to £33.

Irritating, as its US retail side keeps emailing me with news of great discounts - no use to me of course.

So anyone got any views on the Aukey unit/s?

I am slightly wary as, as I said, am pleased with the Anker, and am wary of manufacturers chucking any old cells in the units, possibly changing them over time.

Not heard of them, but I have been happy with a smaller thumbsup bank if you want another brand to try searching for.

Some of them near useless if you consider that, as I understand it, you lose about 30 per cent of the stated capacity of any powerbank.

The RRPs are a joke but they are often available at 75% discount... but I just looked for the first time for a while and it seems that only the 6600mAh dual is still available sensibly for about £10 (compared to £16 typical for the 5200mAh Anker which doesn't even have a display). It does look like they've gone into novelty designs instead. Power banks seem almost as good as saddles for continuity of makes/designs

I've had a power monkey with a solar panel for a few years and it cost me a lot more than that. I must have bought before they became so popular. I'm always reading flight information to make sure it's within the permitted limits so it doesn't get confiscated but I've probably had my money's worth now.

The chap at sJS recommended a battery pack case for my iPhone- triples the battery life or something similar to that.

Must admit to being suspicious of any product continuously sold at deep discount.

By sheer coincidence have just had a mail from 7dayshop about this Anker 10400 at under £16 postage included - I had it on alert as missed it a few weeks ago when I think it was a fair bit cheaper.

Not a bad price for the capacity.

But still interested in Aukey - the reviews seem a tad variable.

And the fact that it has a built in light/torch bothers me. Sounds a tad gimmicky.

But seriously, I wouldn't go back to a four light system after using power banks with displays.

What extra info does your display give you? I must admit to having a leaning towards simplicity and toughness.

Whether there's enough charge for how many recharges of what devices (the phone consumes 30%, the tablet 50%, the speaker under 10%), how fast it's recharging without using a charger doctor and doing sums, and thereby whether a charge point is actually worth persisting with (some train points produce very little current if everyone's plugged in, for example) and how long it's likely to take.

I liked being able to leave the battery at camp reception when checking in, and by the time I'd put up the tent and had a shower it would be back to 100%. The LCD display is useful for knowing how much charge is left and also how close you are to 100% when recharging.

Looks good, if it lasts, which can be a concern with some lesser known brands.

So it needs a special charger?

Can I ask which one you use?

I assume that the input charging is backwards compatible and that it can be used with a more traditional (albeit slower) charger?

It doesn't need a special charger, but recharging is fastest with one that offers USB-C Power Delivery. I chose this because it came with travel adaptors and a USB-C to USB-C cable.

You can also charge the battery with a micro USB cable from a regular 5V/2A wall charger but it won't be as quick. Not timed it but reckon it takes as long as the other (non USB-C quick-charge) portable batteries I own.
