I could have sworn the 1935 Robert Donat film was the original movie of The 39 Steps. I seem to recall Kenneth More, as a very unconvincing Richard Hannay, cycling in the Trossachs to evade capture, in the 1959 version.

I am sure the bike ridden by Twiggy is a powered bike as it has a licence plate

It's a Raleigh Wisp moped - an RSW 16 with a 50cc motor. BB, the other one - not Beryl, rode bikes in a few films as did Sophia Loren in a very Italian way.

And Monroe looks as if she took cycling seriously...

Great pic of Monroe and (I take it) Henry Miller.

Will try to rack my brains and think of some others.

I think you will find it was Henry's brother Arthur in the picture-the one who wrote Dearth of Salesmen, and the play about the Salem witches.

I thank you for your observations.I have seen Diana Dawes st ruggling to ride a bike, and Debbie Reynolds rode a tandem in a Hollywood musical.Another fan of cycling was Bianchi Jagger, after she parted with Mick Jagger.I think a cyclist featured in n a Mercian in Paris-possibly Audrey Hepburn.

Are they cyclists or merely well-known people (stars they might have been called) who have been seen on a bicycle ?

Do you have to be serious to be a "cyclist"?IUn my opinion anyone riding a bike becomes a cyclist.
