can you post your bikes to and from lejog?

Post by crazydave789 »

looking at the train and bus options the usual problem is the bike itself.

is it viable to arrange to post the bike to thurso or a penzance bike shop to start, then again to send it home again using a part of the money you save by taking the megabus for example.

There is a company that will collect your bike from you at John O'Groats, box and post them back to you. I've used them 3 times and they have been excellent. They will also drive you from JoG to the airport. The name escapes me but they collect at the Seaview Hitel so you could ring them up and ask. I may be able to find it later when I have access to emails

For Lands End, phone up the bike shops in Penzance and see if they will do it

Said it before, and I'll reiterate.

Get in touch with a transport company, the sort of people who send pallets of stuff up and down the country.
I used I J McGill Transport.
https://www.ijmcgilltransport.com
They have a depot near here and they sent my bike plus trailer on a pallet up to Wick Airport. They did it as a freebee as I was doing the JOGLE for charity.

I contacted Wick Airport beforehand of course.
http://www.farnorthaviation.co.uk
They received my pallet, and I arrived a day or so later by train (I had planned to fly, but the Icelandic Volcano scuppered that idea, so went by train) stayed overnight in Wick, collected my bike and trailer, Far North Aviation disposed of my pallet, and I rode to JOG and back to Wick. Following morning, I cycled south.

If and when (perhaps) I do the ride again, I would use that system again.
All you need to do is ask a transport company if they can do it, and ask Far North Aviation if they'll accept it.

Simple.
