Are you sure you have enough space? It may be you have too many stored messages already, in which case you would need to create some space by deleting some. Otherwise, I don't know what happens if you try to PM somebody who has you marked as a foe.

You can create a new folder to keep them so they are not lost/deleted

I haven't tried it but anecdotally marking someone as a foe doesn't stop them from sending you PMs
You can opt out of receiving all PMs (Admin and mods excluded IIRC) easily enough in the User Control Panel.
Whilst not simple it is also possible to set PMs from individual forum members to auto-delete on receipt.

Is there a link to the method?
Re: unable to send a PM
To enable auto-deletion of the oldest PMs when the folder fills up see this ( Sticky) topic :- viewtopic.php?f=14&t=117900
Re: unable to send a PM
User control panel > Private messages > Rules, folders and settings > Add New Rule.
Adding rules is a step by step process choosing settings in the "If" box and selecting "Next" at each stage to create them, e.g. If "Sender" "is" "<insert name here>" "delete message".
Easy to do step by step but complicated to describe.
You'll end up with something like this:
If your notifications are set to e-mail you when there is a PM then you'll still get an e-mail saying who it was from. I can't recall whether the forum notifications icon lights up. You'll be unable to read or recover any PM set to auto-delete.

Thanks for that. It looks a tad too complicated for an IT numpty like me. I'll stick to a manual clear out from time to time.
PS That looks as though you have quite a few on auto-delete.

A massive 0.03% of the forum membership .
Mostly pre-emptive, entirely historic and none of the users are currently active.
