Vintage Karrimor pannier bunjee hooks

Does anyone know whether / where the retaining bunjees can be obtained ?

i.e. the black stretch loops with the hook at bottom - which hold the bottom of the pannier to the rack frame. Note the SPARE one posed alongside the fitted one, in the photo below . . . .

I have the same bags (from new, circa 1975!) and stil use them daily - I used some spare shock cord from my sailing stuff odds and ends.

Aha, thanks. I had not considered reusing the hooks, but you imply that they can be manipulated in order replace the bunjee cord.

I simply have a loop of bungee cord the right length and hook the free end onto a small spur that is on my rack - the original hooks are long gone.

The hook is a flat piece of aluminium that was then folded over and "crimped" to hold the ends

It is possible to open them and recluse, but it does weaken the body of the hook

Carradice do replacements and IIRC there is a company called "Nimrod" that do something similar. Both of these have "bungee type" hooks

note that bungee cord comes in various different flavours; if you want stuff that lasts it is worth buying good stuff not cheap stuff.

You may already know - and if so, sorry - there are all sorts of adjustable bungees out there. I've had one for years I bought from ASDA, probably too long and heavy for what you want but the principle is still the same. I also see that in the smaller sizes, flat bungees are advertised.

FWIW, once upon a time, Spa Cycles had a box under the counter full of odds and ends like this. Probably ditto in many traditional bike shops but probably all long gone

A hook with a loop (such as this - not a recommendation just the first example I found) & some bungee cord would let you make your own.

Go Outdoors have some Multi purpose hooks that look like you can alter/replace the bungee.
