Oh yes, I know that children at school are taught handwriting and spelling etc.
Mrs Mick F was a High Level Teaching Assistant until she retired last year, and our elder Daughter is an English teacher.
My point is, that in generations to come, it won't be necessary. Nice to have, but not necessary.

I enjoy handwriting and keep a journal where I record stuff and also jot down my wandering thoughts and opinions. All done with a fountain pen. Probably nobody will ever read it and it will end up in a skip, but it's just for me really.
I keep a calendar, handwritten, just got one for 2019, I always have a little notebook with me, people saw me making notes during a speech and wondered whether I was a journalist
Handwriting and drawing are fun, the stuff goes through the brain even if it is qwertyd
A lot of people in Germany learn "too much", I think that is great, for example woodworkers learn old methods that have been superseded by power tools, but it helps a lot when they are restoring old buildings*
Sailors every learn to sail a ship with sails, have to climb up the rigging. Did Mick F do that?
*apparently many people in the US learn too little or just the minimum, is that worse than too much?
The end of printed books is a while off yet, beyond all our lifetimes, likewise the end of handwriting

Been up masts, but they had radar scanners up there, not sails.
Some years ago, my ship was in maintenance in dry dock in Devonport.
Mrs Mick F came on board and I showed her round the bottom of the dock and what a frigate looks like from underneath.
If you've never done this, please try and see. It's fascinating.
Any road up, Mrs Mick F was duly shown the underwater fittings and the twin screws and shafts bow and and stern, then we went right up through the ship and up to the top of the main mast right up to the top-most part. It's amazing to go from the bottom-most part to the top-most all in one visit. She'll never forget it.

I would like to, but the question is, could you sail the Cutty Sark in rough seas, with a few dozen mates pulled from modern duties?

Yes, but I'm a bit long in the tooth nowadays!
I've been out of the RN for nearly 22years. In five years time, I'll have been out longer than I was in!

Talking of books, I ordered your autobiography a while ago, when will it be published?

Here's the front page.
The rest of it needs printing off. I made a few copies after writing it, and I only have one left.
I'll have to get my head together about this. Maybe I should produce a CD instead.

We have a pen and a little notebook in our car ...................................... Also, a collection of coinage, a small torch, an umbrella, a pack of wet wipes, a small pack of tissues and a little bottle of spectacles cleaner.

Any books in the vehicle?
I have worked with books but not driven a mobile library, that would be fun in rural Wales

I think that's another service that has been stopped too.
Ours used to stop just along the road but haven't seen it since our main library closed down.
