I saw chap on a car park who'd just finished a ride on his fat bike,we got chatting and he let me take it for a quick ride around the car park. The bike was an alu Scott with boingy fork,on a 2minute ride I was quite surprised how nippy it was as I was expecting a real sluglike feel.
Hmm,don't think I'll be parting with my Genesis Longitude anytime soon and I have a Genesis Vagabond frameset in the post which I intend to build up with 2in slicks and drops, but a fatbike demands a longer test ride
Edit:- Thread title is shamelessly stolen from a Youtube channel of the same name.

Development seems to have overtaken my ken agin. I thought the idea of fat bikes was that you didn't need suspension as the massive tyres did it all for you? Oh well, offf to the cycle Show this week, will investigate, although I'm guessing it's mostly going to be ebikes and gravel bikes.

Yeah,I can't see the point of front sus and a 4inch tyre run at 6 to 8 psi

As I see it,a fat bike would be most useful if you live somewhere there is a lot of loose sand, e.g. on the coast or which gets a lot of snow in the winter.

I agree,my Genesis Longitude is sat on 29er x 2.4inch Conti X Kings which I run at 12 to15psi front and 20 to 25 rear .I've ridden some pretty mucky terrain and upto 150mm deep snow, which it handles very well indeed,so I'm sticking with what I've got for the really mucky stuff.
TBH with Fat bikes it's the cost of tyres that scares me off them, that and the other specialised cycle parts, but as Ive posted elsewhere on the forum,to each his own and if 4in and bigger tyres suits the individual who am I to grumble.
In the next week or so I'm looking forward to building up a Genesis Vagabond with drops and lightweight 2inch slicks..........
