What's changed? Continental drift?
Russia west of the Urals is in Europe, some of Turkey is in Europe. Oh and Cathay is now called China.

As I said one of the highest in Europe.
It was for years higher than that of the UK.
Still is all of those things according to the map.
That map is from 6 years ago. There's over 20 countries with a higher suicide rate than Switzerland. So hardly one of the highest in Europe. Perhaps you could produce relative figures for European countries which may prove your point.
But many countries higher are Eastern block.
Considering the relative wealth of Switzerland the rate is pretty high.
And I am correct in saying it used to be even higher. Vorpal cites a paper.
Still the basic point was that wealth alone does not equal happiness.
It is in these modern monetarist "The Apprentice" times a somewhat unfashionable idea.
Yet I know it to be true.

They are people the same as us - though I guess some who describe countries as Eastern block regard their inhabitants as somewhat inferior to westerners. I know quite a few people from so called Eastern block countries living in the UK. It will doubtless surprise you to know that many are very intelligent and well educated.

I have no doubt that is the case.
And it does not "surprise" me at all.
Perhaps I should have said Western Europe?
For it would seem there is a relationship with (old?) political systems.
The fact remains that rich Switzerland has quite a high suicide rate. Higher than some of it's poorer neighbors.
The reasons are complex (aren't they always) but that the Swiss are in some way happier because of their wealth is at least partially refuted by those suicide stats.
I wanted merely to say that Farage was wrong about the guaranteed happiness through wealth.
He likes Switzerland, he is on record as saying he might apply for citizenship.
For tax reasons no doubt.
Though they might not accept him!

So much has changed. My old school atlas, from primary school, had most of Africa coloured pink, with countries like Gold Coast, Northern and Southern Rhodesia, Nyasaland, Somaliland Protectorate, etc.

"Democracy" comes from two Greek words: δημος="people" and κρατία="rule". That's just what Remainers and others on the People's Vote march are asking for: let the people decide. And let them decide now: not two years in the past. Got it?al_yrpal wrote:Clearly illustrating that many dont understand what democracy means. Basically the Remainers world is just like the EU, undemocratic.
