There is a cycling club in Sheffield called the Common Lane Occasionals - I encountered them once near Hathersage, whilst on an audax.

They are so name because they meet on Common Lane.....Occasionally!

Apparently named after the local football team whose nickname is The Wongers. The CC kit is even the same as the footie team - red and white stripes.

Ratae Road Club comes from the Roman name for Leicester.

San Fairy Ann is a corruption of a fFrench phrase "Ca Ne Fait Rien"

There is a club near me called OVB - nobody knows what it stands for, it's supposedly old Norse!

There's a club in London called Vicious Velo, named after Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols. My son won their cyclo cross race - on the prize envelope it said "Never mind the [rude word removed], here's the Winner"!

Horncastle FC play on a sports filed called The Wong.

You should really start a separate thread for this. There is a cycle cross racer called Gusty Bausch.

adfc, allgemeine deutsche fahrrad club, or rather 'alles denkbar falsch club' [everything possible wrong club] is the German equivalent of the ctc

Typical statements: 'smidsy on junctions is about our only safety problem!', 'cyclepaths are built that no-one needs!', 'cyclists should be on the road where drivers can see them!', 'drivers who obey the law should be rewarded!'

One wonders whether the adfc is funded from the Other Side :?

San Fairy Ann is a corruption of a French phrase "Ca Ne Fait Rien"

The club was started in March 1922. At the inaugural meeting a lengthy discussion of what to call it led to a World War One veteran using the soldiers' version of the French expression which translates as "it doesn't matter".

Perhaps that 12 year gap led to RV Endspurt Hamburg forming?
