Disappearing PM

Post by thirdcrank »

Not Teresa May but rather a ghost private message.

When I came onto the forum this morning the prominent red dots indicated I had a private message but when I went into my inbox there wasn't anything unread - the last read message being nearly a week old.

All very odd. Would this happen if somebody sent a PM then had second thoughts?

Yes.
It could be that someone sent you a PM and then deleted it before you read it.

It was I who mailed you, did not change my mind

I would guess that your inbox is full. If you delete a few older messages, or move them to archive, the new ones should be there.

Not on this occasion.

Folder is 1% full (1 out of 100 messages stored)

Check your rules? This is how it looks for me. That's the only way I know that messages can be filtered.

Otherwise, perhaps the answer is as suggested above. Someone has sent a message, then deleted it.

You could check with Graham or admin. They have access to see more stuff than I do.

This thread is in 'Using the forum'. I'm afraid that forum staff cannot help with political problems.

I suppose I'm not all that bothered, unless it's a sign of some hacking. I'd not want somebody to have sent me a message which had somehow gone astray while they thought I was being ignorant.

But thinks. What about messages from somebody on the ignore list?

IIRC the 'ignore'/'foe' list does not disable PMs from those listed.
