Re: Auferstanden aus Ruinen - we love Germany!
I do like reading about Gelehrten, academics, they learn so much, typically:
"Walter Hagemann studied politics, history, philosophy and economics in Muenster, Muenchen and Leipzig", some study quite diverse apparently unrelated subjects, maybe in Hawaii or Leningrad, spend fifteen years or more at universities. Plus One for learning "too much"
Some lucky people then upgrade to politics and never have a 'proper' job

Politicians are jockeying for position to succeed Mrs Merkel, she is standing down as party chair soon
Mr Merz activated his right-turn indicator, many did not like that, my favourite AKK should win. The only problem is, her name is so long and hard to chant at rallies
(*Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer*, try chanting that after a few beers)
Plus Two for another female in charge

Merkel gave her last speech as CDU chairperson after 18 years, her successor was elected, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (AKK) (she was my favourite), she is likely to be Head Girl of Europe quite soon*
+1 for female leaders!

1981 - my first visit to Berlin: return frequently as I have family there.
Bowie's (Berlin Trilogy) best work in my opinion.

There was a plan to rename a street after Bowie, lots of argument, not sure what happened
I was not in Berlin till 1990, at the end of the time of Two Germanies

I think Bowie rated his Berlin stuff as some of his best. He went there to get away from drugs, not having realised Berlin was notorious for drugs. And he took smack head Iggy Pop for company! But he came out of it clean, except for the ciggies.

Edvard Munch, Norwegian painter, stayed awhile in Travemuende and Warnemuende on the Baltic
'I like Germany, for one meets few Norwegians there', he explained

Could not find a street named after him, might be worth waiting a few decades, he may well be forgotten soon
Besides, residents really hate having their street renamed, best to find a new street, maybe a seedy alley behind the train station

Nobody is too famous to be forgotten. Kids these days aren't even sure who Jesus is / was meant to be. Elvis has faded a bit. Sinatra means nothing to a lot of youngsters.

Naming streets after heroes rarely works out well.
https://www.google.com/maps/@51.5831023 ... 6?hl=en-GB
Lynn Davies was an Olympic Gold medallist who had an "avenue" named after him. But the new council flats didn't age well and were demolished, leaving Lynn Davies Avenue as a cut through across a band of grass. Hardly a memorial to a hero. I'm sure Bowie would have found the idea of a street named after him a bit naff. He famously turned down a knighthood for that reason.

There is a suggestion that a top maximum speed limit on Autobahnen be introduced, 130 kmh (+1!), not sure from whom
Politrickians and media dismiss it, there is no visible safety lobby
