Hi,
This is what northern road salt, or is that sea does to springs.

Out of curiosity do you have speed bumps in your locality? Several years ago we lost two front springs on a mondaeo
Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

Hi,
Yes plenty speed bumps, can't leave the village without them, except one road I don't use often.
But I think its more to do with the chronic corrosion that was on the car before I bought it, number plates says a place I forget in very north England.
Spring rear is in three parts, one break the mating metal was all rusty, showing it was broken some time ago, the pic shows the formation of crack.
Also the spring is on a swinging arm with rather acute ends so the spring is being compressed as well as the ends are not parallel and sees different compression either side of spring.
You can see the corrosion on the roll bar and lower arm, bottom spring seat is shaped, top is spigot and a tube to contain the open spring ends, the ends are not formed parallel at all.
