PoB undertakes, offers violence

Post by Cyril Haearn »

Had a great ride today, 31 km! On the last bit through my leafy suburb I perceived a cycist/PoB behind, gaining on me. I passed a parked vehicle outwith the door zone, then made to move to the near side to let him by, plenty of room, but he made to overtake on the inside
I exclaimed in surprise. He offered violence (a middle-aged male), what a *%@#
Doubtless his other bike is an a**i

He made off without striking me, I imagine he realised he was in the wrong. I do dislike such encounters, but they are very rare, fortunately not so many people cycle here, especially on grey January days (+1)

At least the third time this has happened, should there be more cycle training? I guess keeping out of the door zone is not so normal :?

I've had TP's undertake, they haven't offered violence to my admonishments but have tried to excuse themselves from fault with some very bogus suppositions. They've generally been the RLJ's too so maybe Darwinian theory will eventually win out. Of course, they are always upstanding, law abiding members of society.
Convention? what's that then?

Fortunately other people were nearby, so the offered violence was not delivered

The vast majority of motor vehicle drivers have had extensive training, when compared to most cycle training. How's that going in terms of safe bike/other vehicle interaction?
I'm surprised his little knitted legs could reach the pedals.

Darwinian theory doesn't work with nutters on bikes. They have some forcefield that keeps the safe.

There's a very good example on the road out of Lancaster to the north. He's always going the opposite way to me. Always with a deep hoodie on. By that I mean a hoodie that has a very deep hood that hides his face and prevents any field of view other than a small circle in front. He never looks around but fixes his gaze straight ahead.

Straight ahead is an interesting route choice I think. He crosses from one side of the road to the right side for direction of travel by taking a lazy diagonal across the road. Traffic coming towards him doesn't matter to him he takes that diagonal no matter what. Cars, vans and buses have to stop or hit him.

His alternative route for crossing over the road is at a busy T junction with an extra side bus filter lane. He crosses it diagonally without slowing down and ignoring what state the lights are in. We are talking rush hour here.

Anyway my opinion is that he's a bag head who's off for a fix or methodone. Or a dealer / courier of drugs. He's certainly not on this planet completely but he's somehow cosmically protected.

Avoiding the door zone, I am 1.5m from the vehicle at least, plenty of room for a PoB to undertake :(

You need to offer him even more room. After all, those stabilisers must take up a lot of space....
Suppose that this room is a lift. The support breaks and down we go with ever-increasing velocity.
Let us pass the time by performing physical experiments...
