LeJoG JoGLE, have you cycled it?

Post by Cyril Haearn »

Have you cycled from top to bottom of the UK or bottom to top?
You have three votes which may be changed

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

JOGLE in 1994 due to two facts. One. I was already in Scotland being in the RN. Two, we live in Cornwall.

LEJOG and Back in 2006. Mainly both ways coz we live in Cornwall. 1,800miles.

JOGLE on a Raleigh Chopper in 2010. One, it was a hoot to ride the damned thing. Two, we live in Cornwall. :D

Meanwhile, in 2008, I took the train to Edinburgh and rode out via Inverness to the Far West, then worked my way down to SW Scotland and crossed over via Carlisle to NE Yorkshire, then diagonally SW to Wales, the diagonally SE to Gloucester, then home to Cornwall. 1,400miles.

No problem, it is a bit complicated, I allowed three votes and ten choices, one can not see who voted two or three times
Analysing the statistics is difficult, I am one of the few who has not done an EtoE

Should have maybe allowed votes for Cape Wrath to Dover too, is that equal to JoGLE?

JOGLE 2005 - LEJOG 2010 . . . . planned to ride Home - JOG - LE - Home in 2015 but got struck down with cancer in 2014 (now recovered) - have it my mind to do JOGLE again in 2020.

Done it once, that was enough, not that there was anything wrong with it, but there's so many options I don't see the point of repeating it. If I did it'd have to be something very different from the first time, maybe as an Audax or as a group ride. Home to Barcelona is about the same distance as an E2E, I don't intend to repeat that either, but if they were the only two choices I probably would. I found the East to West ride, Lowestoft to Ardnamurchan, tougher than the E2E, against the grain rather than along it.

Interesting poll and surprising results! My single effort was last September and I WILL be doing it again. Some lessons learnt and instead of West Scotland I would do through Edinburgh.

As I ride a recumbent trike and pull a trailer, the only public transport I can use are ferries.
So I've only done Home -> LE -> JoG -> Home three times now.
The first trip took in all the cardinal points.
The second trip I tried to maximize the number of ferries used, including the Shetland ferries I think I used 25 in the end.
The third trip I circumnavigated the UK mainland so I've also added every side to side, just not directly A-B.
I've also done Home -> Black sea -> Baltic sea -> Home and Home -> Med -> Baltic sea -> Home.
The only other long tour I've done was around Iceland and back.
It's easy when you have both the time and the money to do long trips.

YMMV ........... :D
