Reading this at 6.30am I am glad I am not the only one who gets up with the lark. With me it all started with being a carer, So tired at night I started going to bed at nine and up at four or five in the morning but I actually prefer it, I think?

The body clock has a weekly function too
Went cycling yesterday, felt agreeably tired back home, had supper, went to bed
Felt a bit queer this morning, headache
Realised my body was telling me to Keep the Sabbath. Happy to oblige

Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

lol

I seem to have developed the 7 hours during the night sleep pattern and now an almost compulsory 20 - 30 minute nap between 14 and 1500hrs ...
The nap... usually in the car ... parked before anyone kicks off ... :) .. really recharges my batteries ... must terrify pedestrians though !!
The nap often occurs in a side street in central Sheffield waiting to pick my grandson up from college.

The road goes on forever.

sleep coach Nick Littehales has theories that the need for sleep is more complex than the standard 8hrs recommended norm.

his opening gambit (from the link below):
1. Think in cycles, not hours
Needing eight hours a night is a myth, says Nick. Our sleep follows a natural 90-minute cycle as we move between deep NREM (Non-Rapid Eye Movement) and REM sleep. The important thing, he says, is not to interrupt one of these phases, so structure your sleep in multiples of 90 minutes: this could be 7.5, 6, or 4.5 hours of shut-eye.

Nick advises sticking to a regular wake time and working backwards. So, if you plan to wake at 6.30am for example, you should plan to drift off at 5am, 3.30am, 2am, 12.30am or 11pm.

I need eight hours.
Any I can get during the night, is a bonus.

Bed last night at just after 8pm. Up and about before 6am and breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast at 7.30am.

Caffeine and alcohol before bed can affect different people different ways. I've a pal can down a strong coffee right before bed and he just passes out like normal. If have a coffee say after 6pm, I'm still buzzing at 1am. Doesn't work for me, neither does boozing late at night.

It's got to such a problem, that yesterday, I turned in at 8pm and was up and about and having a cuppa at 4am this morning.
I find that late evenings are difficult and early mornings are easy.

It's getting stupid, and I can't see a way out of this towards "normality" ............................. or whatever that is.

Does it matter?

As you have been known to comment on what does your head in, I'll mention that the bit I've highlighted is tautology when we know that it can only be 4am today. PS Don't lose sleep over it.
