Can anyone recommend a solicitor

Hi,

last May I was knocked off the bike by a lorry, the company (CEMEX) have admitted liability. They have advised me to get my own solicitor, so I am after a good one that specialises in this sort of claim.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I am not a member of the BCF or any other cycling groups that may have been able to assist.

I'm a CTC/CUK member. I got hit in early 2015 . Slater and Gordon, being CUK's appointed legal-eagles, acted for me and the result was very satisfactory . Things do take a while. My initial contact with them was via CUK, but I don't know how you'd contact them as a non-member. "Oldjohnw" - (we don't know each other, as far as I know) has given their e-mail contact details above.

Were you injured when you were knocked off? The Conditional Fee Agreement (So called no win no fee) legal route is only available if it's a personal injury claim and then only if it's going to be above a minimum limit (£1,000 when I made a claim, but it may have changed) If you meet the criteria, then a solicitor who specialises in personal injury is what you should be looking for rather than a cycling expert (The solicitor from Slater & Gordon who dealt with my claim knew nothing of cycling)
It's worth checking any policy you have to see if it's included, it's often bundled with insurance of all sorts, banking benefits, union membership, roadside assistance... You don't get a hugely better deal from these or the Cycling UK one, they still only take cases they think will win, you still have to pay a 25% success fee, you may get slightly better free advice before signing up and you don't have to pay for the insurance that covers the other sides legal bills if you lose.

I don't know whether your question was being asked of me, but yes I did have personal injury - my leg was broken. The bloke who did it admitted liability. Slater and Gordon asked a few questions, and my interpretation was that they were checking that I had a valid claim and that it was 'winnable' for them - as far as I know that CUK agreement is 'no win no fee', but the legal eagles did check first.
